Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 8/14/2025
Welcome to Sojourney! Our mission is to help you find your path, connect with others on a meaningful learning journey, and discover effective resources guided by a network you trust. Your privacy and the trust you place in us are fundamental to this mission. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and how you can control your information.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in three main ways:
a. Information You Provide to Us
Account Information: When you create an account, you provide us with information like your username, email address, and password. You may also choose to add more information to your profile, such as a profile picture or a bio.
Your Pursuits & Votes: We collect the information you create on our platform. This includes the Pursuits (learning objectives) you adopt, the resources you submit, and your votes (upvotes and downvotes) on resources for specific Pursuits.
Communications: If you contact us directly for support or feedback, we will receive the contents of your message and any other information you choose to provide.
b. Information We Collect Automatically When You Use Sojourney
Usage Information: We log activity information when you use our services, including the Pursuits you view, the resources you click on, the users you follow or unfollow, and the dates and times of your activity.
Device and Log Information: When you use the Service, our analytics and error monitoring providers may receive standard device and log information sent by your browser, such as browser type and operating system. While your IP address is transmitted to these providers as part of standard internet communications, we do not store IP addresses in our own databases.
Cookies: We use cookies and similar technologies to operate and provide our services, including to remember your settings and for security purposes.
c. Information from Third Parties
External Services: If you choose to link or sign up with a third-party service (like Google or Facebook), we may receive information from that service, such as your basic profile information. We will only receive information you have explicitly authorized that service to share with us.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to operate, improve, and personalize our platform. This includes:
To Provide and Personalize Our Core Service: To calculate and display your personalized resource rankings based on your network's activity. This is the core function of our platform. To display your profile and your adopted Pursuits to other members. To recommend Pursuits or Members you might be interested in.
To Communicate With You: To send you service-related notifications, respond to your support requests, and share updates or news about Sojourney.
To Improve Our Platform: To analyze usage patterns, understand what features are most effective, fix bugs, and develop new features that support our mission.
For Safety and Security: To verify accounts, combat spam and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. How We Share Your Information
Your information is shared in the following ways to make our social learning network function:
With Other Members (Your Public Profile): Your username, profile picture, bio, and the list of Pursuits you have adopted are publicly visible to other members of Sojourney. Other information such as your email, website, Youtube channel, and Instagram username, are only visible to other members if you choose to share them. Pursuits that you have adopted as "public" are visible to other members, while those you have adopted as "private" are only visible to you.
Network Influence (Anonymized & Aggregated): Your votes are used to calculate the personalized scores for other members. When another member sees a score, they do not see your specific name tied to that vote in the score calculation itself. They see an aggregated result of their network's activity. We may display your username in contexts like "Also upvoted by..." on a resource page, subject to your privacy settings.
Service Providers: We may share information with third-party vendors and service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf (e.g., cloud hosting, database services, analytics providers).
Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
Business Transfers: In the event that Sojourney is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We do not sell your personal data to third-party advertisers.
4. Your Choices & Controls
You have control over your information and how it is used on Sojourney.
Profile Information: You can access and update your profile information at any time through your account settings.
Account Deletion: You can delete your account at any time through your settings. When you delete your account, we will delete your profile and other personal information. Please note that your anonymized votes may be retained as part of the aggregate data used to calculate scores, but will no longer be linked to you.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to help protect your information from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access. However, no electronic transmission or storage of information can be entirely secure, so we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your personal information.
6. Children's Privacy
Sojourney is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice on our platform before the change becomes effective. We encourage you to review our Privacy Policy periodically.
